The Winner of the Yoto Carnegie Medal for writing has just been announced. It is The Blue Book of Nebo written and translated by Manon Steffan Ros. We have a copy in stock in the children’s section of the library.
This is the first time in the awards almost 90-year history that the award for writing has been awarded to a book in translation. Told through the dual narrative of a mother and son in post-apocalyptic Nebo, this compelling, conceivable story explores Welsh identity and culture, and offers a beautiful appreciation of language. The original Welsh publication, Llyfr Glas Nebo, won multiple awards, including the 2019 Wales Book of the Year.
The Yoto Carnegies are the UK’s longest running and best-loved children’s book awards, recognising outstanding reading experiences created through writing and illustration in books for children and young people.
All of the shortlist celebrated outstanding achievement in children’s writing and illustration. This prize is unique in being judged by an expert panel of children’s and youth librarians, including 12 librarians from CILIP, the library and information association’s Youth Libraries Group.
The shortlished books offer bold storytelling and unforgettable voices and the library has copies of them all including the winning book.
