About the Project
Friends of Birkdale Library became a registered charity in September 2013. When the old Birkdale library site was put out to tender in May 2015 we put in a bid, in conjunction with another agency, to purchase the site. This bid failed but since then we have been looking to find another suitable premises in the Birkdale area. For the past 12 months we have been in negotiations with Merseyrail.
We are now extremely pleased to report to you all that we have been given permission to use the station master’s house at Birkdale station for a library and community hub. The house has been unoccupied for many years so we will need to fund raise, and apply for grants, to bring the building up to modern day standards. We are working closely with a representative from Merseyrail. This project will be for the community by the community. We hope to have the support of our community as this is to benefit us all. We will need more people to help us for fundraising, volunteers and general help. We would like to make use of the railway heritage too as this could be the theme through out the house.
Friends of Birkdale Library will change its name to Birkdale Community Hub and Library at the Station Master’s House. We are very excited about this project as at last we have something that our community can be a part of. If you have any queries or would like to help please let us know via the Contact page.
